The course of your hiking tour:

Day 1: Individual arrival at Schladming

The former mining settlement Schladming is now considered one of the biggest tourist magnets in Austria, especially important as a winter sports resort. The location of the city between the south walls of the Dachstein and the Schladminger Tauern, which is very much appreciated by mountain hikers, is magnificent. Schladming is a very good starting point for this hut tour.

(3 nights)

Day 2: Onto the home mountain of Schladming, the Planai

On the first day, you start right at the hotel and hike towards the Talbachklamm gorge. Now begins a partly steep ascent along forest paths, through fields and meadows, and further and further into the world-famous Planai ski area. Once you reach the mountain station, you can enjoy the magnificent panorama before taking the cable car back down to the valley.

You can also shorten the tour individually by taking the cable car and only doing parts of the hike.

~ 6 km; 5 hrs., difference in altitude: ascent 1080 / descent 0 m

Day 3: In the Valley of the Falling Waters – 3 Lakes Tour

The hiking bus takes you to the starting point of this wonderful hike on the crystal-clear Styrian Bodensee, where the abundance of water of the Schladminger Tauern can be experienced particularly well. The nature trail is framed by wild mountains of primary rock, above all the steeply towering Hochwildstelle. Two rushing waterfalls underline the imposing character of this primeval landscape. Already from the first lake, the view of the Bodensee waterfall opens up. A layered stone staircase quickly takes you up and you reach a green hill, where you soon reach the Hans-Wödl-Hütte. Here you can take a break before continuing the path to the Schleier waterfall. Finally you reach the dreamy Obersee. After this ascent, the tranquillity of the surrounding mountains can be enjoyed extensively before returning to Styrian Bodensee. The return journey is again by hiking bus.

Hiking: approx. 4 hours (8 km, ascent 540 m in height, descent 540 m in height)

Day 4: On the Giglach High Trail - a scenic "Haute Route"

In the morning you comfortably take the cable car from Rohrmoos to the summit plateau of the Hochwurzen. The alpine panorama trail over the mountain ridge to the south is the perfect start to the hiking tour. Over gentle grass ridges and clear forest, the trail leads first to the Latterfußsattel and over extensive alpine rose fields on the Guschen. A little more demanding, but always secured, is the second part of the tightrope walk. In the alternation of descents and counter-ascents, the first, attractively located mountain lake – the Brettersee – is reached. The Ignaz-Mattis-hut will soon be in sight. It impresses with its unique location on a hill above the Greater Giglachsee. (1 night)

Hiking: 5 hours (approx. 10 km, ascent 783 m in height / descent: 615 m in height)

Day 5: Descent back to the valley

Past Lake Giglach, the descent back down into the valley begins. First, follow the Giglachbach stream downhill and finally past old mines to the Hopfriesen bus stop. Here, take the bus back to Schladming.

Hike: approx. 3 hours (7 km, ascent 0 m / descent 910 m)
