The course of your hiking tour:

Day 1: Individual arrival at Ramsau am Dachstein

Travel to Ramsau am Dachstein by car or public transport. This idyllic village at the foot of the Dachstein South Face offers both relaxation and sporting challenges. In winter, it is a well-known venue for Nordic competitions, while in summer it is ideal for hiking in the shadow of the mighty mountains. You will receive your travel documents at the hotel.
(3 nights)

Day 2: Hike around Mount Kulmberg

~ 10 km; 4 hrs., difference in altitude: ascent 371 / descent 371 m, difficulty: easy

First hike along the WM-trail (World Championship trail) to the Waldschenke Inn. You walk round the ski jump until you reach the Philosophen trail, which leads to Kulm (in summer orchids along the trail – watch out!). Either walk along the street to Kühlhaus (towards the Heimat-Stüberl), or from Schistube Steiner along the forest trail above the street to Kühlhaus. From here follow the signposted trail until you reach the Kulmbergstrasse. Cross the street and follow a comfortable broad trail to the west. After the houses you´ll have a magnificent view over meadows to Planai – follow this idyllic trail along the edge of the forest until you reach Vorbergstrasse. Turn right, hike uphill shortly to a rolling stage, after crossing it, a steep ascent starts at the edge of the forest, parallel to the rolling stage. At the top, the forest trail winds to the left, it offers great views to the Südwänden (southern walls), leads you past the hotel Herold and after a short street part turn right into a small alley (Hohlweg), which merges in a pine trail. Turn again right and you´ll reach the ski jump ground again.

Day 3: 5 huts trail – The Classic

~ 14 km; 6 hrs., difference in altitude: ascent 887 / descent 887 m, difficulty: moderate

Directly from the hotel you hike on a broad trail to hotel Lärchenhof, turn right to hotel Lindenhof and hotel Ramsbergerhof, then left through the larch forest past Holzer and Kramlhof to Edelbrunn Inn. From here there is a forest trail ascent, first past the Dachsteinhaus hut in the direction of Türlwand. From here the trail leads you steadily uphill to Brandalm Pasture. Enjoy the first beautiful, really impressive Dachstein view. The 5 huts trail leads further through the area of the Ramsauer Pastures and merges maintain the Hunerkogel Inn in the Dachsteinstrasse. From here the valley station of the glacier gondola is only a few 100 meters distant. Here starts the ascent to the Südwand hut (nr. 6 and 615). This climb leads directly beneath the Dachstein glacier gondola up to the cirque of Schwadering, where mostly a waterfall falls over the rock face, in summer you still have to cross a snowfield there. From the Südwand hut the trail leads first at the Pernerweg trail downhill in the direction of the Südwände (south walls), turn left and steeply downhill. Later you walk through a beautiful larch forest to Maralmboden. Follow trail nr. 671 approx. 30 min. back to Neustattalm Pasture = best place to take photos! Go on hiking and cross the Dachsteinstrasse to Walcheralm Pasture and Glösalm Pasture. Continue via Schlitzenalm Pasture where the trail, shortly before you reach the Dachsteinhaus hut, leads you back to the starting point Gasthof Edelbrunn Inn.

Day 4: Hike to the highest Alpine Club hut in Styria

The Guttenberghaus, hiking destination of the day, is located at 2,147 meters. The hut already celebrated its 100th birthday and has fortunately retained its rustic character. Located on a meadow hill, you can enjoy an impressive view of Ramsau and the Enns Valley at your feet, as well as the Lower and Higher Tauern opposite. (1 night)

Ascent with the Dachstein cable car (included in your Schladming-Dachstein Summercard) to the mountain station at 2,687 meters. Over the Schladming Glacier, the hike runs in a wide arc over the rugged landscape of the Dachstein massif and the Feisterscharte to the Guttenberghaus.

Hiking: approx. 4-5 hours (9,5 km, ascent 264 m in height / descent: 861 m in height)

Day 5: Descent back to the valley

Today, you will descend back into the valley via Anton Baum Weg. Passing through Tiefkar and enjoying views of the Schladminger Tauern mountains, you will arrive back in Ramsau.
Hike: approx. 3 hours (8 km, ascent 60 m / descent 1000 m).
