Medieval Florence is in an uproar. The notorious poet Boccaccio is to blame, whose novellas about the libertine love life of Florentine women incities the venerable gentlemen of the city to take to the barricades, while the ladies are all too willing to succumb to the poet´s charm. The daring title character soon finds himself in a romantic adventure full of confusion, danger, and passion, which promises more than just the material for the next novel. "Boccaccio" is Suppé´s absolute global success, and rightly so. The work offers everything that makes the operetta heart beat faster. Witty, zippy humor, big feelings, and incomparable music that makes you forget about here and now.
To escape her persistent admirers, the lively and capricious Countess Mariza flees to her estate in Hungary and becomes engaged to the fictional Count Zsupán. When the fictional marriage candidate suddenly appears very real and wants to kidnap the beloved to Varazdin, the hilarious emotional chaos begins. A poor, mysterious estate manager - also in love with the countess - brings the quiet Hungarian country life completely out of balance.
This hilarious and deeply moving plot is accompanied by Kálmán's fabulous music - a true fireworks display of fast-paced Csárdás, unforgettable evergreens, and lively schlagers; in short: a truly great operetta classic in red, white, and green.
In search of a spectacular story for a new play, theater director Mäandros goes to the highest authority, Jupiter, the father of the gods. He is quickly convinced - he wants to experience the material for the theater sensation himself and secretly mingles with the mortals with Mercury, only to be ultimately seduced by none other than his own wife Juno. "The God Husband" is a rare gem in the operetta repertoire. This masterpiece has never been performed in Bad Ischl before. In 2026, the Lehár Festival will bring this capativing operetta to the stage for the first time in a semi-staged production. Enjoy a delightful emotional chaos, framed by Lehár´s touching, imaginative compositions full of musical highlights.
