Glöcklerlauf in Bad Ischl
- "Ritt der Heiligen Drei Könige" und Glöcklerlauf in Bad Ischl
- Krippenaustellung in Bad Ischl
Every year on the Last Raunacht, that is the night from the 5th to the 6th. In Bad Ischl at nightfall, the Glöcklerlaufen takes place.
The name "Glöckler" derives from glöckeln (=knocking) and refers to older customs in the Salzkammergut. The Glöcklers, led by forefather or spy, move in so-called passes from the surrounding villages to the city center and from house to house. The passes, with up to 20 members, are dressed in white, wear ornate caps on their shoulders and a bell ringing on their belts.
Another highlight of the winter custom in Bad Ischl is the "Ride of the Holy Three Kings". They ride on the 5th. January at around 5pm, accompanied by torchbearers and shepherd singers, solemnly enter the center of Bad Ischl. Old traditional shepherd songs from the Salzkammergut are sung. Particularly noteworthy are the robes of the kings and their companions, as well as the harnesses of their horses. The "Ritt of the Holy Three Kings " is performed by the Bad Ischl Trachtenverein and the 1845 Bad Ischl Men's Singing Association.
