The Salzkammergut is one of the most beautiful mountain biking regions in Austria. The unique and varying natural landscape with the spectacular views, extensive forests, clear mountain streams and lush meadows give you the necessary energy kick to manage this sporting challenge. Steep climbs are rewarded with magnificent views.

Take over the Salzkammergut region between mountain heights and crystal-clear lakes, spare no metres in altitude and reach your destination tired, but happy!

Routing:

1. Day: Individual arrival in Bad Aussee

2. Day: Bad Aussee – Bad Mitterndorf – Grundlsee – Bad Aussee

~ 68 km difference in alltitude: ascent 1171, descent 1079 m; ca. 4,5 - 5 hrs.

Today's tour takes you past the Sarstein Forest where you can enjoy the panoramic view with Loser, Sandling and Dachstein. Continue along the Kainischtraun and around the Ödensee past the Steinitzenalm and the Salzastausee to Bad Mitterndorf. From there along the Salza to the highest point of this stage, the Klaushöfl at 1200 m, downhill to Grundlsee with a small jump into the lake before continuing along the lake back to Bad Aussee.

3. Day: Bad Aussee – Bad Ischl

~ 38 km, difference in alltitude: ascent 1091, descent 1292 m; ca. 5 hrs.

You start today´s tour in Bad Aussee towards Altaussee. Pass the ruins Pflindsberg and the Schlosswiese. Enjoy a short break here on the Halleralm before you take the way in Pichlern to the cave entrance Scharzenbachloch. The trail continues past the Rossmoosalm and the Berghof Predigstuhl. Passing a variety of tunnels from the salt extraction, we finally reach the finish of the stage to Bad Ischl.

4. Day: Bad Ischl – Grünau im Almtal

~ 75 km, difference in alltitude: ascent 1395, descent 1333 m; 5,5 hrs.

The trail takes you along the Traun to Ebensee. It continues from Ebensee through Traunkirchen via Neukirchen to Altmünster and Gmunden. From Gmunden past the Traunstein to Almegg and on to Grünau im Almtal.

5. Day: Grünau im Almtal – Bad Ischl - Bad Aussee

~ 56 km to Bad Ischl, difference in alltitude: ascent 1167, descent 1206 m; 4,5 hrs.

Today's tour starts in the direction of Almsee from where it continues uphill to Offensee. From Offensee a downhill trail leads you to the Offensee district road from where you continue on a Uphill trail and a shared trail to Rindbach and then to Ebensee. From here it continues along the Traun back to Bad Ischl. You can cycle further to Bad Aussee or take the train to Bad Aussee.

"A tree for your booking" – Cooperation project with Austrian Federal Forests

For every bike or hiking tour in the region booked with us, a tree is planted in the Weißenbach valley – near Bad Ischl. With this campaign we want to generate awareness for climate-friendly travel and take responsibility for a world worth living in.

Demanding: mountain bike required; gravel roads and mountain bike trails - challenging terrain with some steep climbs, good fitness and experience are required
