A romantic and historical train journey leads from the imperial summer retreat of Bad Ischl to the magnificent residence city of Vienna. Following in the footsteps of young Empress Elisabeth, you’ll experience charming landscapes, historic sites, and a touch of nostalgic elegance. As the train gently winds its way through the Salzkammergut and the rolling hills of Lower Austria, a bygone world full of grace and longing comes to life. This journey blends culture, nature, and history into a truly special experience – all in the spirit of the Empress.

Daily program

Day 1: Individual journey to Bad Ischl and first discoveries

You arrive in Bad Ischl in the afternoon and check into the Hotel Villa Seilern. In the late afternoon, you will visit the Imperial Villa, the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth. During a guided tour, you will learn exciting details about Habsburg history. End the evening in a cosy atmosphere with a cup of Melange coffee and a slice of imperial cake in the former Imperial and Royal Confectionery Zauner. Court Confectionery Zauner. You will spend the first night at the Hotel Villa Seilern.

Day 2: Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut

After breakfast at the hotel, make your way to Hallstatt. Take the train from Bad Ischl to Hallstatt, where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery on a boat trip from Hallstatt railway station to Hallstatt Markt. Then take the Salzbergbahn railway up to the World Heritage View viewing platform, which offers a breathtaking view of Hallstatt and the surrounding UNESCO World Heritage Site. You return to Hallstatt railway station on another short boat trip from the Hallstatt Markt stop. After an eventful day, return to Bad Ischl and spend the night at Hotel Villa Seilern.

Day 3: From Bad Ischl to Vienna - Imperial experiences in the capital

In the morning, enjoy breakfast at the hotel and check out. Then take the train from Bad Ischl to Vienna. After arriving at the Parkhotel Schönbrunn, which is located in the immediate vicinity of Schönbrunn Palace, you check into your room. In the afternoon, Schönbrunn Palace is on the programme: the Sisi Ticket gives you access to the imperial rooms, the Sisi Museum and the Furniture Museum. Round off the evening with a ride on the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel, from where you can enjoy a marvellous view over the city. You will spend the night at the Parkhotel Schönbrunn.

Day 4: Viennese delights and cultural discoveries

Today is free for you to discover Vienna on your own. Use the Vienna City Card for 72 hours and visit some of the city's most important sights, such as St Stephen's Cathedral, the Kunsthistorisches Museum or the Belvedere Palace. In the afternoon, treat yourself to a break at Café Landtmann, one of Vienna's most famous coffee houses, and enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. The evening is yours to explore other charming corners of Vienna.

Day 5: Final explorations and departure

Enjoy a final breakfast at the Parkhotel Schönbrunn before checking out. Use the morning to visit a few more sights or cafés and enjoy your time in Vienna. Then make your way to Vienna Central Station or the airport and start your journey home.
