Salzburg, one of the largest European cultural and tourist centers, in the incomparable landscape on both banks of the Salzach, towered over by the Mönchsberg and Festungsberg (west) and Kapuzinerberg (east). The picturesque streets of the old town, the numerous churches, the proud Hohensalzburg Fortress and the surrounding mountain landscape give the residence city incomparable charm. The city on the Salzach owes its world fame to the composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was born here in 1756. The Salzburg Festival has been attracting audiences from all over the world every year since 1920.
