The local tax, also known as visitor's tax, is payable locally to the landlord; the amount depends on the resort and is between 1,00€ and 4,00€ per person per night. Children up to the age of 15 are usually exempt.

In times of the Counter-reformation Protestants in Austria had to follow their beliefs in secret. On adventurous routes, under the constant threat of capture (and subsequently heavy punishment), bibles, prayer and song books were smuggled to the remote mountain valleys of the Salzkammergut where the protestant beliefs were still strong among the population.
The course of your hiking tour:
Day 1: Individual arrival in Bad Goisern.
You will receive your travel documents at your accommodation
Overnight in Bad Goisern.
Day 2: Bad Goisern – Goiserer lodge
~ 6 km, 4 h, altitude difference ascent 1083 m / descent 10 m
Ascent via Trocktannalm to the Goiserer lodge below the summit of Mount Kalmberg. Not far from the lodge lies the “Kalmoos church”, a cave in which Protestants attended services in secret in the past.
Overnight stay at Goiserer lodge.
Luggage transfer from Bad Goisern to Gosau where you spend the following night (overnight backpack and hut sleeping bag* for the night at Goiserer lodge have to be carried by yourself!)
Day 3: Goiserer lodge – Gosau
~6 km, 3 h, altitude difference ascent 0 m / descent 840 m
Descent via Iglmoosalm to Gosau. In the evening we recommend to visit to the Protestant church, which is known for its good acoustics. Perhaps you are in time for one of the regular performances.
Overnight in Gosau
Day 4: Gosau – Zwieselalm – Hofpuergl lodge
~10 km, 5 h, altitude difference ascent 850 m / descent 860 m
Take the bus or walk (approx. 7 km) to the starting point of this stage at the Gosausee Lake. Cable car up to the Zwieselalm, hike to the Hofpuergl lodge
Overnight stay at the Hofpuergl lodge
Luggage transfer from Gosau to Ramsau where you spend the following night (overnight backpack and hut sleeping bag* for the night at the Hofpuergl lodge have to be carried by yourself!)
Day 5: Hofpuergl lodge – Ramsau
~13 km, 6-7 h, altitude difference ascent 1017 m / descent 1072 m
High altitude to the Dachstein Suedwand lodge, descent to the Tuerlwand, then hiking bus to Ramsau village.
Overnight stay in Ramsau under Mount Dachstein.
Day 6: Ramsau – Schladming
~ 7,5 km, 4 h, altitude difference ascent 166 m / descent 587 m
Across the Ramsauer plateau you walk to the central town of the region - Schladming
Overnight stay at Schladming.
Day 7: Individual departure

General information:
Daily stages are introductory to moderately difficult, hiking distances can be adjusted easily by public transport. A reasonable fitness level and basic hiking equipment like good hiking shoes, rucksack, rain and sun protection, functional clothing and also a warmer jacket or pullover are necessary to enjoy your trip.

Notes on staying at an Alpine lodge:
- *Hut sleeping bag: blankets are available in the huts; necessary but mandatory is only a lightweight cotton/silk sleeping bag liner
- Due to their location, not all huts can offer running water, hot water or showers. In some cases there is also no flushing system in the toilets.
- On most huts, card payment is not possible. Take enough cash with you for food and drinks.
