4 days /3 nights short tour with start and end in the mountain village Filzmoos
  • alpine experiences and culinary delights

Mountains are silent masters and make silent students.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, German poet (1749 – 1832)

The “Hohe Dachstein” with its 2,995 metres, Unesco World Heritage Site since 1997, and at the same time the highest mountain in the Northern Limestone Alps, was once a barrier between the Enns Valley and the Salzkammergut to the north. The region south of the Dachstein Mountains, above Filzmoos, is particularly attractive because of the alpine farming, which is still traditionally practiced today. Its heyday can be traced back to the time of the Middle Ages, which was coming to an end, because a short time later a small ice age began and as a result the climatic conditions changed, which made life much more difficult.

In the small mountain village of Filzmoos, culinary delights are also very important. It is not only the award-winning chef Johanna Maier who is famous for her alpine gourmet cuisine. Numerous other hosts invite you to feast. Our guests can expect a culinary highlight in the form of gourmet half-board at the Hotel Dachstein. Here, the chef will cook for you personally.

Look forward to impressive alpine and mountain hikes through a magnificent high alpine landscape, complemented by culinary delights and delicacies of the region, which make up the special charm of this trip.

Routing:

Day 1: Individual arrival in Filzmoos in Salzburg's Pongau region

Filzmoos, magnificently located at the foot of the 2,458-meter-high "Große Bischofsmütze" in the southwest of the Dachstein Mountains, is the starting point of the hut tour. Originally, this was a pure alpine pasture area. You will receive your travel documents at the 4* Hotel Dachstein and experience a gourmet half-board with a 5-course evening menu including a vitamin-rich salad and raw vegetable buffet.
(1 Night in Filzmoos)

Day 2: In the realm of the Filzmoos alpine pastures near the Bischofsmütze

The hut tour begins in Filzmoos and follows the hiking trail over the Marcheggsattel into the high forest to the Wiesenhöhe, with a magnificent view of the Aualm, located in the upper Fritzbach valley, the Hofalmen and the Almsee. Below the imposing Bischofsmütze with its characteristic jagged ridge lies the Hofpürgl hut with panoramic terrace at 1,705 meters. It is today's goal.
(1 night at the Hofpürgl hut)
Hiking: approx. 3.5 hours (7 km, ascent 730 m / descent 110 m)

Day 3: Below the steep walls of the Hoher Dachstein

Lovers of bizarre limestone formations will get their money's worth today. First, you follow the Salzburger Almenweg to the so-called Rinderfeld, a pasture area covered by limestone blocks and landslide material. A crystal-clear mountain stream winds through it, inviting you to linger. We continue past huge rocks and climb to the "Tor", the highest point of today's stage. Here you also cross the Salzburg – Styrian border. The path runs directly below the steep walls of Torstein, Mitterspitz and Hoher Dachstein. You reach the Dachstein Südwand hut, which - like an eagle's nest - lies below the steep south faces of the impressive Dachstein massif.
(1 night at the Dachstein Südwand hut)
Hiking: approx. 5-6 hours (11 km, ascent 762 m / descent 586 m)

Day 4: Panoramic alpine hike south of the Rötelstein

From the Dachstein Südwand hut you first hike along the Pernerweg and continue along a path that winds down into the Maralm area. From here, follow the Salzburger Almenweg to Bachlalm, where trusting marmots greet the hiker. On this wonderful hiking trail you can enjoy all the brilliance of the panorama of the 2,247-meter-high Rötelstein. It goes past the slopes of the mountain range and continues over the open terrain of the Nößlerriedel. You reach the Weitenhausalm in the Hammerbach valley and follow a section of the path through sparse larch forest and cross two streams. Finally you get back to Filzmoos.
From here, individual departure takes place or an extension stay can be booked.
Hiking: approx. 4-5 hours (11 km, ascent 240 m / descent 1,050 m)
