In the footsteps of the Silent Night
- Stille Nacht Kapelle Oberndorf
- Waggerl House Museum and Silent Night Museum
It´s soft tones and comforting words that touch hearts: "Silent Night! Silent Night!" is a song whose magic has been unbroken for more than 200 years. A song that promises comfort and hope. Over and over again.
Over the centuries, this song has transcended borders and crises. It connects people regardless of origin, age or religion, and it connects us to the time in which it was created. Two hundred years ago, the Salzburg priest Joseph Mohr and the Upper Austrian teacher Franz Xaver Gruber sang the song for the first time: in the St. Nikola Chruch in Oberndorf near Salzburg. The poem came from Joseph Mohr´s pen. It was set to music at his request by Franz Xaver Gruber. It began its journey from Austria to Europe and the world just a few years later, and is now sung in more than 300 languages and dialects.
