Glacier, Mountain Lakes and Pastures

Directly from the hotel with a view to the impressive Dachstein massif and ascent via the Anton Baum Weg to Guttenberg lodge. At the lodge the terrace, with its great view, invites to make a deserved rest.

On trail nr. 618, past Sinabell and Wasenspitze hike to the junction to trail nr 619. Very scenic is here the Höllgrabensee Lake (Silberkarsee), which is located in a rock basin and the great nature with an extensive view on the landscape “Am Stein”. Descent via Stangalm Pasture, steep and stony in serpentines down to the Silberkar hut., past the via ferrata Siega. Walk through the romantic white-water gorge, past the Schleier Waterfall, via steps and bridges, next to the wild creek downhill. At the exit of the Silberkar gorge take the right trail to the snack station “Fliegenpilz” (1040 m) and go on hiking on trail nr. 7 and the panoramic trail nr. 1. Walk the last 20 min. softly uphill back to Ramsau. Possibility to take the bus from Silberkar gorge back to Ramsau.

First hike along the WM-trail (World Championship trail) to the Waldschenke Inn. You walk round the ski jump until you reach the Philosophen trail, which leads to Kulm (in summer orchids along the trail – watch out!). Either walk along the street to Kühlhaus (towards the Heimat-Stüberl), or from Schistube Steiner along the forest trail above the street to Kühlhaus. From here follow the signposted trail until you reach the Kulmbergstrasse. Cross the street and follow a comfortable broad trail to the west. After the houses you´ll have a magnificent view over meadows to Planai – follow this idyllic trail along the edge of the forest until you reach Vorbergstrasse. Turn right, hike uphill shortly to a rolling stage, after crossing it, a steep ascent starts at the edge of the forest, parallel to the rolling stage. At the top, the forest trail winds to the left, it offers great views to the Südwänden (southern walls), leads you past the hotel Herold and after a short street part turn right into a small alley (Hohlweg), which merges in a pine trail. Turn again right and you´ll reach the ski jump ground again.

Ride with the Dachstein Panorama gondola to the glacier. Visit the Ice Palace and the breathtaking suspension bridge. Austria's highest suspension bridge is directly linked to the “Dachstein Ice Palace“. The suspension bridge amazes with a view over Austria's highest peaks and an unrestricted line of sight 400 metres downwards over the rugged rocks of the Dachstein Massif.
ATTENTION: If you want to go to the Dachstein Glacier it is very important to make a reservation for your gondola ride here: www.derdachstein.at/en - at minimum 1 week in advance. Otherwise the gondola could be fully booked. For the reservation guests are responsible for themselves.

Directly from the hotel you hike on a broad trail to hotel Lärchenhof, turn right to hotel Lindenhof and hotel Ramsbergerhof, then left through the larch forest past Holzer and Kramlhof to Edelbrunn Inn. From here there is a forest trail ascent, first past the Dachsteinhaus hut in the direction of Türlwand. From here the trail leads you steadily uphill to Brandalm Pasture. Enjoy the first beautiful, really impressive Dachstein view. The 5 huts trail leads further through the area of the Ramsauer Pastures and merges maintain the Hunerkogel Inn in the Dachsteinstrasse. From here the valley station of the glacier gondola is only a few 100 meters distant. Here starts the ascent to the Südwand hut (nr. 6 and 615). This climb leads directly beneath the Dachstein glacier gondola up to the cirque of Schwadering, where mostly a waterfall falls over the rock face, in summer you still have to cross a snowfield there. From the Südwand hut the trail leads first at the Pernerweg trail downhill in the direction of the Südwände (south walls), turn left and steeply downhill. Later you walk through a beautiful larch forest to Maralmboden. Follow trail nr. 671 approx. 30 min. back to Neustattalm Pasture = best place to take photos! Go on hiking and cross the Dachsteinstrasse to Walcheralm Pasture and Glösalm Pasture. Continue via Schlitzenalm Pasture where the trail, shortly before you reach the Dachsteinhaus hut, leads you back to the starting point Gasthof Edelbrunn Inn.

~ 10 km, 4 hrs., difference in altitude: ascent 754 / descent 348 m, difficulty: moderate

By bus to Filzmoos. (Journey time approx. 45 min.)
This stage is a highlight for everybody who likes bizarre limestone formations.
After crossing the Hammerbach creek in Filzmoos hike uphill the street to Oberberg. From the Gasthof Reithof Inn branches a trail to the right and at farmstead Weitenhaus you don´t follow this trail anymore but turn right on the gravel path in the direction of Hammerbach.
On this trail you´ll reach the Weitenhausalm Pasture (not cultivated). Shortly after the pasture there is a steep trail to the left which leads you via a larch meadow up to Nösslerriedel. At the saddle of the hill compensates a wonderful view to the Kalkspitzen (lime peaks) of the Dachstein Massif with the Torstein, Dachstein Südwand and the bit flatter Rötelstein. You walk via meadows next to mountain pines the last part to the “Naturerlebnisweg Bachlalm” downhill to Bachlalm Pasture.
At the Schaidlalm Pasture, a few meters below the Bachlalm, leads trail nr. 671 to the right. On a comfortable hiking trail walk over to the decayed Maralm Pasture and after the Marbach creek hike to the right via the Klausgraben to Neustattalm Pasture and further to Glösalm Pasture and Walcheralm Pasture.
By bus to Ramsau Ort. (Journey time approx. 15 min.)

~ 6 km; 2 hrs., difference in altitude: ascent 400 / descent 400 m, difficulty: moderate

Right next to Gasthaus Edelbrunn Inn branches a steep forest road, which leads you via the Brandriedl to Austria hut. From here descent either to Brandalm or go on hiking to hotel Türlwand. Pass the Gasthof Hunerkogel Inn and after the next bend, branche to the left and walk along a broad hiking trail, past the Brandalm Pasture and Dachsteinhaus hut, back to Gasthaus Edelbrunn Inn.

By bus from Ramsau to Schladming. Change to Bodensee line to Steirischer Bodensee. (Journey time approx. 1,5 hrs.)
From the parking lot of the Steirischer Bodensee you´ll reach the Forellenhof Inn in a few minutes, where you go on to the valley head. Here starts the steeply ascent via trail nr. 782 until you reach the Hans-Wödl hut at Lake Hüttensee. A short ascent follows past the Schleier Waterfall to the dreamy Obersee Lake, where you a get a special feeling of peace and tranquility.
Same way back.
By bus back to Ramsau.

By bus to Silberkarklamm. (Journey time approx. 15 min.)

At the parking lot of the Silberkarklamm leads an impressive ascent along the thunderous forest creek, easily passable via steps. Waterfalls, vertical rock faces, flowers (in spring a lot of golden auricula) and the wild and romantic scenery in the gorge and cirque are making this hike also interesting for families. Even recommendable if the weather conditions are not stable. The Silberkar hut is located in the middle of the cirque. From there walk the ridgeway back: left from the hut leads a climb along the hillside to a large viewpoint. From there walk via a “Wurzelsteig“ (root climb), narrow and steep, through the woods downhill to a wayside cross, from there walk to the left back to the entrance of the gorge. Shortly before you end the tour: possibility for making a stop at snack station “Fliegenpilz”. They offer donkey rides for children.

By hiking bus up to Türlwand. (Journey time approx. 20 min.)

One of the most beautiful and easiest walks in the Ramsauer alpine region, with an impressive panoramic view. From hotel Türlwand hike first along trail nr. 6 and then softly downhill via the alpine meadows without any height difference through a beautiful larch forest to the Austria hut. Here is the alpine museum. From the hut you walk 10 min. to Brandriedel with a wonderful view to the high plateau of Ramsau, the Schaldminger Tauern and Mount Dachstein. From Brandriedel back to Austria hut, then left downhill to Brand-alm Pasture, past the mountaineers’ memorial and the Dachsteinkircherl (little church) along the broad 5-huts-trail back to Türlwand.

~ 13,2 km, 5 Std., difference in altitude: ascent 1076 / descent 1076 m, difficulty: challenging

From the Neustattalm Pasture the trail leads through a bright larch forest to the Maralmboden und further to Bachlalm Pasture. Party via screes you walk up to the “Tor” (gate), the natural break between Raucheck and Torstein. Shortly you walk steeply downhill to Pernerweg, nr. 617. The impressive trail leads you past the powerful Dachstein south walls to the Südwand hut. From there you walkin the direction of the valley station of the Dachstein glacier gondola and back to the Dachsteinstrasse to the starting point.
