The history of the crop plant dates back to the Stone Age and the Waldviertler Grauohn was even traded on the London Stock Exchange.
The Waldviertel offers the ideal climatic conditions for the optimal development of poppies. Between 200 and 700 hectares of poppies are grown annually in the Waldviertel.
The “grey gold” is the basis for many culinary delicacies – in addition, the landscape during the poppy blossom season (about July) is a real “feast for the eyes”
