Hiking in the Salzkammergut does not necessarily mean climbing mountains. There is a different way! Enjoy the picturesque Salzkammergut in 7 leisurely stages. The hiking tour takes you from the Lake Altaussee to Lake Hallstättersee as far as the Lakes Gosausee with its magnificent view on the impressive Mount Dachstein. There is plenty of time to discover the villages with its sights. Nature and culture are in accord here and offer the perfect setting for a rich hiking-experience.

The course of your hiking tour:

Day 1: Individual arrival in Bad Aussee.

In Bad Aussee you receive your travel documents along with a welcome drink and a souvenir from the Salzkammergut.

Day 2: Bad Aussee – Lake Altausseer See round tour – Bad Aussee

~ 13,5 km, 4 hrs, difference in altitude ascent 149 m / descent 93 m

Start your tour in Bad Aussee and walk along the Altausseer Traun river until you reach Lake Altaussee. Enjoy the round trip of the Lake. Bus back to Bad Aussee.

Day 3: Bad Aussee – Obertraun – by bus to Gosau

~ 14 km, 4 hrs, difference in altitude ascent 178 m / descent 319 m

Hike through the Koppen valley along the Traun River to Obertraun. We recommend a visit of the Koppenbrüller Cave in this area. Afterwards bus ride to Gosau.

Day 4: Hiking to the rear Lake Gosausee

~ 12,5 km, 4,5 hrs, difference in altitude ascent 326 m / descent 336 m

Bus ride to Lake Gosausee. Your tour starts at the anterior Lake Gosausee and leads you via the Holzmeisteralm to the rear Lake Gosausee with impressive views onto the Gosaukamm and Mount Dachstein. Enjoy a well-deserved rest at the rear Seealm. Hike back to the starting point. Busride to Gosau Mittertal.

Day 5: Hiking to the upper moor Löckernmoos

~ 15 km, 5-6 hrs, difference in altitude ascent 764 m / descent 773 m

The todays tour starts via the Panorama trail to Gosau Hintertal. Cross the street there and ascent to Mount Löckernmoos. On a sea level of 1400 m you will find the nature reserve Löckernmoos with a little lake and a particular plant and animal life. Descent to Gosau Mittertal and hike back along the Gosau creek to your hotel.

Day 6: Bad Goisern – „Ostuferwanderweg“ trail – Hallstatt – Bad Goisern

~ 8 km, 2 hrs, difference in altitude ascent 34 m / descent 26 m

Bus ride from Gosau to Bad Goisern Au. From here you hike along the eastern shore - with magnificent views of Hallstatt and the Dachstein Glacier to the train station Hallstatt. Take the ferry to Hallstatt market and discover this steeped in history village on the path of the salt. Bus  ride to Bad Goisern.

Day 7: Bad Goisern – Bad Ischl – Bad Goisern

~ 11 km, 3 hrs, difference in altitude á 137 m / â 157 m

The todays hike leads you from Bad Goisern to Bad Ischl. Along the river you hike toward the small village Lauffen – the church of Lauffen was a famous place of pilgrimage – people were praying here for protection from the wild waters of the Traun River. Discover the village of Bad Ischl before you go back by bus to Bad Goisern.

General information:

Daily stages are introductory to moderately difficult, hiking distances can be adjusted easily by public transport. A reasonable fitness level and basic hiking equipment like good hiking shoes, rucksack, rain and sun protection, functional clothing and also a warmer jacket or pullover are necessary to enjoy your trip.

The local tax, also known as visitor's tax, is payable locally to the landlord; the amount depends on the resort and is between €1,00 and €4,00 per person per night. Children up to the age of 15 are usually exempt.

Reduction for children sleeping in their parents’ room (2 fully paying guests, maximum 2 children):
0 –   2,9 years: 100 %                                                       3 – 14,9 years: 30 %

Accommodation:
Twin-bedded rooms in Austrian resorts are normally one large base with two mattresses/duvets. These are also known as 'Austrian Twins' and are regarded as two beds. Separate twin beds are rare and cannot be guaranteed as available.
Location of the accommodation are mainly close to the trails.

Information for arrivals by car:
The parking place does not always situate next to the accommodation but on a public parking place. (Possibly costs have to be paid on spot)

Dogs are welcome - on request. Extra charge on site. In Austria there is a general leash and muzzle obligation!
