The Salzkammergut from its most beautiful sides

Gentle hikes, walks to feel good and experience the Salzkammergut from the most beautiful sides.
  • including a cozy hut evening

Discover the Katrin, Ischl's local mountain, hike along the eastern shore of Lake Hallstatt, through the Blinklingmoos, one of the most beautiful moors in Austria and on the beautiful Bürglstein Panoramaweg in Strobl and around the Langbathseen near Ebensee, two real natural jewels.

The Salzkammergut offers a variety of options for walking paths and easy hikes, which do not have any significant vertical meters and are therefore too easy to master. Take your time and sit down on a bench. Enjoy the fresh air. Consider beautiful view.

In between, a boat trip on Lake Traun, a visit to an imperial summer residence and a visit to various traditional businesses round off the program. The perfect combination of gentle hiking & sightseeing!

Ride on the Katrin cable car to Ischl's local mountain

Walk to the "Trauntalblick" viewing platform
Walking time: approx. 30 minutes to the viewing platform, 1 hour for the entire circular route

The hiking trail leads from the mountain station down to the Katrin Almhütte, followed by a leisurely half hour on to the "Trauntalblick" viewing platform. From there there is an overwhelming view of the Goiserer and Ischler valleys and the Dachstein. You can return to the mountain station either the same way or via the natural, wildly romantic path of the Rosen- and Feuerkögerl.

Walk to the "3-Country View" viewing platform
Walking time: approx. 15 minutes

The hiking trail leads from the mountain station along the "7-Seenblick-Wandering" in the direction of Hainzen. First past the "heart picture frame", which is a popular photo motif, and continue straight ahead to the viewing platform. The name "3-Länder-Blick" comes from the fact that you can see the three federal states of Upper Austria, Styria and Salzburg from this platform. On the way there, numerous benches invite you to linger.

Day 2 Eastern shore hiking trail on Lake Hallstatt

A total of 7.4 km, 80 meters up, 90 meters down
Duration approx. 3 hours (pure walking time, without breaks)

You start your way at the Metzgerwirt Vieh Heli and first walk along the little road on the Arikogel (a rich Roman treasure of gold was found here in 2005). This is how you approach the northern end of Lake Hallstatt. In the district of Obersee you will now come across the Ostuferweg, which first takes you past a few houses and always along the shore to the Uferwirt Seeraunzn, which invites you to take a break. Then follow the path, always along the lake, past the favorite holiday home of the former Federal President and finally, nestled between rock faces and the water, on suspension bridges to Hallstatt train station.

From here you cross the lake by boat to the World Heritage site.

Individual stay in Hallstatt

In the afternoon in Bad Ischl, visit to the Imperial Villa with a guided tour of the summer residence of Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Elisabeth, affectionately known as Sisi. The Kaiservilla is surrounded by the extensive Kaiserpark, which invites you to take long walks.

Day 4 Wolfgangsee: Blinklingmoos and Bürglsteinpanoramaweg

Total: 7 km, 50 meters up, 30 meters down
Walking time: approx. 2.5 hours

The Blinklingmoos in Strobl is one of the most beautiful moors in Austria.
After you start at the Gschwendt ship station, after a few meters turn onto the former railway embankment of the Salzkammergut local railway that connected Bad Ischl with Salzburg. Always along the lake shore with a wonderful view of St. Wolfgang and the Schafberg, you then hike through the Blinklingmoos and reach Strobl.

You cross the town center and go to the source of the Ischl stream before you almost circle the Bürglstein, partly on a gravel path, partly on bridges that run between the rock face and the water. Your bus will then be waiting for you again in the district of Berau.

Continue to St Wolfgang.

Enjoy coffee & cake in the famous Weisses Rössl, which became famous worldwide through the operetta by Ralph Benatzky and the film adaptation with Peter Alexander.

Joint hut evening on a mountain pasture in the Wolfgangsee area

Day 5 Check-out at the hotel and then return home

Our tip for the day of departure: hike around the Langbathseen.
From the center of Ebensee it is about 7 km in the direction of the Langbathseen.

The Vorderer and Hinterer Langbathsee are beautifully situated alpine lakes that invite you to take a wonderful hike around them. From the Vorderer Langbathsee car park, walk along the right bank of the lake and at the end of the lake you can choose whether you turn left and thus only walk around the Vorderer Langbathsee (walking time approx. 1 hour) or continue to the Hinterer Langbathsee, which you can reach after another approx .Reach 30 minutes. On the way to the Hinterer Langbathsee you overcome a step in the terrain on the ascending forest road. The lake, in which the surrounding mountains of the Höllengebirge are reflected, offers an impressive motif. After a loop around the Hinterer Langbathsee you hike back on the forest road to the Vorderer Langbathsee.

Walking time: Around the Vorderen Langbathsee approx. 1 hour
From the front to the rear Langbathsee and back approx. 2 hours
Around both Langbathseen approx. 2.5 hours
