General information:

Daily stages aren´t technically heavy and are also feasible for amateurs. A reasonable fitness level and basic hiking equipment like good hiking shoes, rucksack, rain and sun protection, functional clothing and also a warmer jacket or pullover are necessary to enjoy your trip.

1. day   Individual arrival in St. Michael - Lungau

In St. Michael you will get your welcome package and travel documents.

2. day   St. Michael – Mauterndorf - Speiereck und Trogalmseen, ~ 4 hrs. , 6 km
difference in altitude:
á566 m/ â586 m

Bus to Mauterndorf (payment on spot). Ascent with the Grosseckbahn funicular. Hike to the Trogalm lakes, then ascent to Speiereck. The impressive hike around the peak leads over 3 summit crosses. Then decent to the Peterbauer Alm, via Trog Alm and Panorama Alm back to the mountain station of the Grosseckbahn funicular.

Bus (payment on spot) back to St. Michael.

On Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday on fair weather days you have the possibility to take the Sonnenbahn funicular in St. Michael to go up on the Speiereck mountain.

3. day   Zederhaus – Riedingtal - Königalm, ~ 2 - 3 hrs. , 7,5 km
difference in altitude:
á205 m/ â182 m

By bus (payment on spot) to the Naturpark Riedingtal. The hiking path runs above the Riedingbach creek in the direction of Schliereralm and Schliererlake. Follow the lakeshore and the idyllic Almenwanderweg path along the Riedingbach creek. Pass other mountain huts and after a short ascent you finally arrive at Königalm. Overnight at Königalm

4. day   Königalm – Riedingscharte - Sticklerhütte, ~ 3 hrs., 6 km,
difference in altitude:
á630 m/ â555 m

The ascent to Riedingscharte is short (1,5hrs) but a bit challenging. On a distance of approx. 3 km you have to overcome 600 m altitude difference. The effort is worth it, on the top there´s an unforgettable panorama of the Riedingtal valley waiting for you. At the Riedingscharte follows a pleasant descent to the Sticklerhut. By valley bus and regional bus (payment on spot) back to St. Michael. Overnight in St. Michael

5. day   St. Michael – Unternberg – Tamsweg, ~ 4 – 5 hrs., 17,5 km
difference in altitude:
á498 m/ â537 m

Today the tour starts at the Sonnenbahn funicular in St Michael. Via St. Martin the path leads you in the direction of the imposing Moosham castle. From there follow the Kulturwanderweg path downhill to Unternberg. The relaxing route along the Mur river and the Tamsweger Rundwanderweg path guide you to the famous pilgrimage church St. Leonhard, which towers over Tamsweg. Descent to Tamsweg. Overnight in Tamsweg

6. day   Weißpriachtal – Granglerhütte – Wirpitschsee, ~ 4 - 5 hrs., ~ 14 km
difference in altitude:
á 570m/ â570 m

By bus (payment on spot) to Hinterweißpriach. From the Diktlerhut through magical woods and along the crystal clear water the path leads you through the pure natural Weißpriachtal valley. Take a rest at the Granglerhut before you continue hiking to the mountain lake Wirpitschsee. Possibility bus from Granglerhut to Mariapfarr – then change to Tamsweg (payment on spot). Overnight in Tamsweg

7. day   Göriachtal – Landawirrsee, ~ 3 – 4 hrs., ~ 10 km,
difference in altitude:
á540m/ â540m

By bus (payment on spot) from Tamsweg to the dreamy hut village in Göriachtal valley. The hiking path leads you along resounding torrents and waterfalls deeper into the beautiful valley. Afterwards the ascent to the Landawirseehut over a winding path follows. Recompense yourself with a rest at the Landawirrseehut on 1985 m, before you visit the beautiful Lakes Landawirrsee, which are only a few steps distant from the hut. Descent to the hut village. By bus (payment on spot) back to Tamsweg. Overnight in Tamsweg

Twin-bedded rooms in Austrian resorts are normally one large base with two mattresses/duvets. These are also known as 'Austrian Twins' and are regarded as two beds. Separate twin beds are rare and cannot be guaranteed as available.

Information for arrivals by car:

The parking place does not always situate next to the accommodation but on a public parking place. (Possible costs have to be paid on spot)


Dogs are allowed in the accommodations on request, often for a small fee. Extra costs have to be paid on spot. Austrian law orders that dogs must wear a leash or a muzzle!
