When the snow is crunching underneath your shoes in a glittering white landscape, when the lakes are steaming in the fresh cold air, and the sun is sending down its beams, the winter in the Salzkammergut welcomes you. A breath-taking winter world – with unforgettable pictures.

Required equipment:

  • 3 sets of warm underwear
  • wind and water resistant functional clothing (Goretex, Softshell etc.)
  • hat and gloves
  • sun glasses and / or ski goggles, sunscreen
  • waterproof winter boots
  • snow gaiters are of advantage
  • the backpack should have a fastening possibility for snow shoes

Route planning

The walking distances are based on the following average walking speed:
2,6 km and 200 meters of elevation per hour

The execution of the tour depends on weather and avalanche conditions!

Changes of routing are possible!

Day 1: Arrival

Individual arrival in Faistenau where you are greeted with a welcome drink. In the evening your guide will come to the hotel for an introduction and a briefing.

Overnight stay in Faistenau

Day 2: guided tour: “Ski and snow shoe tour educational trail” in Faistenau ~4,5 km, 5 hours, altitude difference á 482 m / â482 m

Transfer to the parking court Mitterholz which is the starting point of the ski and snow shoe tour educational trail.

The educational trail offers you interactive learning and avalanche knowledge on tour. A modern learntool which combine theory and praxis in a method style concept. A winter sports man in the mountains can learn here new and interesting thing.

From the Loibersbacher Höhe descent to the parking court Mitterholz or to parking court Döller and taxi transfer back to the hotel in Faistenau.

Don´t forget to pack your food on the tour. Possibility to stop for a meal at Mitteregg-Alm (only on weekends).

2nd overnight stay in Faistenau.

Day 3: guided tour: Faistenau – Zwölferhorn – St. Gilgen ~9 km, 6 hours, altitude difference á600 / â783

Transfer with the taxi to the parking court Kühleiten. Start of the snow shoe tour at the mountain Zwölferhorn and descent to St. Gilgen at lake Wolfgangsee.

There are different ascent routes to the panorama mountain Zwölferhorn. It depends on condition and request of clients which route is taken from your guide. The mountain Zwölferhorn is opened up with a small skiing area.

Don´t forget to pack your food on the tour. Possibilities to stop for a meal en route.

Overnight stay in St. Gilgen at lake Wolfgangsee.

Day 4: optional guided tour or individual: public bus to the lake Fuschl – snow shoe tour round the lake Fuschl – public bus back to St. Gilgen ~11 km, 3-4 hours, altitude difference á 202 / â 202

The tour can be done without guide. Public bus from St. Gilgen to Fuschl and back (approx. 10 minutes).

The protected south side position of the path makes it possible to hike around the lake in winter too.

Most part of the path around lake Fuschlsee lies close by the shore of the lake. Only at the west side, near the Castle Fuschl and the stream "Fuschler Ache" the path turns a bit away, but goes through an attractive nature reserve. Breathtaking views over the lake and the surrounding mountains wait for the hikers. At the north shore of the path you will find a lucky place called "Waldandacht" - a place to stay and sit, enjoying the view to the lake.

2nd overnight stay in St. Gilgen.

Day 5: Relax Day or winter hike from St. Gilgen via St. Wolfgang to Strobl ~8 km, 4-5 hours, altitude difference á354 / â342

Today we recommend a relax day. Take the bus to your hotel in Strobl with beautiful spa area with indoor swimming pool with waterfall, sauna, brine steam bath, whirlpool and massage showers. Against charge: oriental Rasul bath, massage whirl thermal, solarium, infrared cabin and massages.

Bathrobe and bag are provided.

Or you hike along the beautiful and peaceful winter hiking trails along the lake Wolfgansee from St. Gilgen over the Falkenstein to St. Wolfgang. Individual stroll in St. Wolfgang and then take the bus to Strobl to the hotel. If a guide is desired it may be booked as well. To be paid on spot.

Overnight stay in ****hotel in Strobl.

Day 6: Individual departure / a transfer back to Faistenau can be booked option on spot.
