The lush-green Ennstal valley captivates with diverse landscapes where water, in whichever form, plays the dominant role. Be it the glaciated Dachstein, wildly-romantic gorges and springs, rolling rivers and creeks or the 300 Alpine lakes - the crystal-clear, fresh waters shape the surroundings and make for an invigorating hiking experience.

General information:

Daily stages are introductory to moderately difficult and are suitable for beginners. A reasonable fitness level and basic hiking equipment like good hiking shoes, rucksack, rain and sun protection, functional clothing and also a warmer jacket or pullover are necessary to enjoy your trip.

Day 1:   Individual arrival at your accommodation in Schladming-Rohrmoos

At check-in you receive your travel documents.

Day 2:  Suggestion: Untertal – Duisitzkarsee – Neualm - Untertal

~ 4-5 h, 9,5 km altitude difference á 704 m / â 702 m

As introduction why not visit Lake Duisitzkarsee, a genuine insiders’ tip:

Take the free hiking bus to Eschachboden. Choose between a short, steep Alpine track or a winding forest road. Enjoy a break at one of the huts at the lake side, for an extended hike go past Neualm along an Alpine creek back to the parking lot.

Day 3:  Schladming-Rohrmoos – Preunegg – Ramsau am Dachstein

~ 8 h, 19,5 km altitude difference á 962 m / â 688 m

You follow the trail along the north-face of the Hochwurzen, a popular skiing resort. Through a romantic gorge the trail leads to Preunegg and further to Gleiming where you cross the Enns river and enter the Ramsauer Plateau.

Day 4:  Suggestion: Dachstein Glacier

A free hiking bus takes you on a winding road to the Türlwand, directly beneath the glacier. The panoramic bus ride is followed by an even more impressive cable car trip to 2 700m.

Take a short walk on the glacier ice, experience the thrill of the Dachstein suspension bridge or the             “stairway to nothingness”

Day 5:  Ramsau - Haus im Ennstal

~ 4 h, 12,5 km altitude difference á 245 m / â 613 m

Leave Ramsau on the Philosopher’s Trail. The Sattelberg is an inviting spot for a first stop with   Alpine huts, offering refreshments and a Children’s Adventure Park. Pass through the beautiful rural hamlet of Birnberg and cross the Enns at the sports centre into Haus.

Day 6:  Haus im Ennstal – Grobming

~ 7 h, 17 km altitude difference á 881 m / â 844 m

Follow the trail over Weissenbach, then slightly ascending, to Sonnberg with Kneipp facility for tired feet. Along the south face of the Aichberg the trail offers magnificent views of the Grobminger valley. Through the hamlet Weyern the road winds into Grobming.

Day 7:  Suggestion: Stoderzinken

The Alpine plateau beneath Mount Stoderzinken offers a wide range of hiking possibilities:

  • The ascent to the mountain top is especially rewarding, as you pass a small chapel jammed into the rock face with magnificent views of the valley on your way to the top.
  • Guided walks through the eerie “Notgasse” gorge
  • Zipline Stoderzinken: thrilling rides with the biggest rope-gliding flight facility in the Alps
